Free for PNP Members, $100 for non-members, $50 for students and internsEmotion-focused therapy (EFT) for individuals, although not as well-known as EFT for couples, is based on over four decades of process research. This research has identified numerous “maps” that describe how to use precise, detailed interventions to move clients through specific sequences of emotional states that lead to optimal outcomes in therapy. Using the therapeutic relationship as a critical part of the change process while employing these research based maps to move the therapy process forward is the hallmark of EFT. We will provide an overview of the evolution of EFT into what we believe is a cutting edge approach to psychotherapy, discuss how EFT conceptualizes emotion, and give several examples of the maps that modern EFT uses to guide the treatment process. A video that demonstrates the use of these maps in an actual therapy session will be shown. Jamie Levin-Edwards, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist and has been in private practice in Portland for over three decades.
